Katie Knowles

Portrait of physiotherapist Katie Knowles, postpartum rehab specialist at Foundation Rehab.

Katie grew up in Campbell River and was one of the first ever practitioners at Foundation Rehab. She has now returned to us after a short, two child hiatus... Katie earned her degree in Physiotherapy from the Australian Catholic University in North Sydney and her BA in Exercise and Physical Health Education from the University of Victoria. After living abroad for most of her adult life, the island was calling her back home to establish roots for her young family. Katie’s physiotherapy approach is rooted in the ideology that bodies are very adaptive and stronger than we probably give them credit for. She is a firm believer in empowering her clients through education and creating collaborative treatment plans to achieve client goals. She is a certified Functional Dry Needling (IMS) practitioner and has an impressive background in exercise rehabilitation & personal training. You should absolutely expect movement & exercise in your program. In addition to treating musculoskeletal injuries, Katie has extensive post-graduate training in women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction. She treats people with conditions including incontinence, prolapse, diastasis recti abdominis, coccydynia, pre/post surgical rehab, painful intercourse, postpartum recovery (including post-cesarean section) & pelvic girdle pain (to name a few).  Although Katie enjoys working in all areas of pelvic health, she has a special interest in treating prenatal & postpartum conditions, especially since becoming a mama herself. Her own experience with pregnancy, labour and recovery unlocked a compassion for supporting other mama’s going through the same journey.  Certifications: •    Bachelor of Physiotherapy – ACU Sydney, Australia •    Bachelor of Exercise & Physical Health Education – Uvic, •    The Female Athlete Level 1- May 2023 •    Diastasis: Current concepts for effective assessment and treatment – 2023 •    Treating and training the female runner – (current) •    Integrating a trauma-informed approach into routine physical therapy practice (part 1, 2, 3)- webinar - 2023 •    Foundations: Diaphragm/Pelvic Floor Piston for adult populations – 2022 •    Special Considerations for Caesarean Section: Preparing for and Recovering from Belly Birth – 2021 •    Pregnancy, Pelvic Girdle Pain and the Pelvic Floor – 2021 •    Dyspareunia – including vulvar dyspareunia – 2019 •    Pain, science and pelvic health: Neurodynamics and manual therapy – 2019 •    Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling Level 2 - 2019 •    PABC Webinar: The Anatomy of Therapeutic Alliance: Physiotherapy & Psychotherapy integration and co-treatment for persistent pain – 2019 •    Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling Level 1 Certified - 2018 •    Female and Male Urinary/Fecal Incontinence, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, and Coccydynia - 2018 •    Pulling it all together: a physical therapy approach to Diastasis Recti Abdominis – 2017
